Stewing hens are simply retired egg-laying hens, and although they are less tender and less meaty than the much younger meat birds, they boast a remarkable taste profile unparalleled by younger birds. Best suited for soups and stews–as indicated by the name–they add value and flavor not soon to be forgotten.
Our stewing hens are brought to you after having spent a rich lifetime in egg production in our laying hen flock. Living on pasture in a chemical-free, GMO-free environment, blessing us and you with the best eggs found anywhere before becoming a stewing hen to create yet another excellent meal.
Like our meat chickens, they are dressed here in our own processing facility in as humane a manner possible. Not treated with citric acid or other undesirable preservatives or anti-microbials, it's just chicken raised well and harvested clean and non-toxic.
