Why Don’t All Food Producers…
By Sam Fisher
- Produce food with the primary focus on health and nutrition instead of volume and profit?
- Refuse to make a product that they know isn’t of the best quality ingredients?
- Focus on increasing the eater’s health (quality and nutrition) – instead of turnover and profit (bragging rights and wealth)?
- Produce animal proteins (meat and dairy) slowly and naturally on grass?
- Evaluate the land on which their raw materials are grown (in order to naturally regenerate the commons for future generations)
- Focus on the right animal and plant phenotypes in order to maximize food quality
- Raise all food animals outdoors in a natural environment?
- Focus on perennials instead of annuals (to build soil more effectively)?
- Seek to build lasting relationships with the eaters of their product instead of posting “No Trespassing” signs and hiding behind “Right-to-Farm laws”?
- Produce food in a manner that is “aromatically and aesthetically pleasing” instead of factory farms and monocrops that are obnoxious and offensive to the human senses, not to mention reliant on the crutch of all sorts of artificial inputs?
- Provide a full replace-or-refund guarantee if you don’t like the product?
- Maintain a 24/7/365 open-door policy where anyone can come anytime to see anything?
- Provide food free from GMO’s?
- Guarantee their food to be antibiotic and artificial hormone free?
- Recognize that commercially produced highly processed foods are about 5 minutes old compared to how long humans have been eating, and have yet to prove themselves as healthy?
- Recognize that throughout history food production was always more art and craft than science?
- Produce food using traditional methods that have stood the test of time?
- Invite patrons and non-patrons to tour their facilities?
- Provide honest labeling?
- Educate eaters instead of mislead?
- Adhere to honest pricing instead of passing a large portion of the costs off to taxpayer
There are plenty of false promises and glitzy labels out there – but most food producers would never even consider doing most of the things listed above. Why not? The driving force behind our farm is the desire to help you eat with confidence, and to make eating—as well as food production—an enjoyable and regenerative act. That’s what wakes us up in the morning. That’s what keeps us going. There are many reasons our customers are the happiest and healthiest people in the world.
